Functional Volumes and Planning Breaks

This section discusses creation and modification of functional volumes and planning breaks. Functional volumes divide a design into smaller units, which are more manageable for design and manufacturing purposes, and are necessary for the transition between functional and detailed design. They also allow you to estimate weight, center of gravity and footprint of the design assembly during the functional design phase. Planning breaks are incorporated into functional volumes for engineering purposes, and add offsets to the boundaries of functional volumes.

It is important to integrate shipyard specifications, such as planning restrictions and lifting capabilities, early in the functional design phase.
