System User's Guide: Communications and Networks

Identifying Compatible Systems

Using the uuname Command

Issue the uuname command to display a list of all systems accessible to the local system. For example, when you type:

uuname

at the command line, the system displays a list such as:

arthur
hera
merlin
zeus

This information is used to determine, for example, the name of an accessible system before copying a file to it. The uuname command is also used to establish the identity of the local system. The uuname command acquires its information by reading the /etc/uucp/systems file.
