Notes for Host Server Support

The IBM Network Station Manager logon support uses the host server support (that runs in subsystem QSERVER). Therefore, we suggest adding the command to start the QSERVER subsystem and the host server support to your AS/400 system startup routine (if they do not exist already).

The command STRSBS QSERVER starts the QSERVER subsystem and the command STRHOSTSVR *ALL starts the host server support.

Notes When Using Setup Assistant to Configure IBM Network Station Printers

The IBM Network Station Manager Setup Assistant TASK 4300 assists you with configuring IBM Network Station printers. However, in order to configure a printer, an entry must exist for the IBM Network Station in the BootP table (defined using TASK 4200). This is true regardless of the boot type (NVRAM or NETWORK) defined on the IBM Network Station itself.

Notes When Configuring BootP Entries on the AS/400 Boot Type Specification

Entries in the BootP table (use the Work BootP Table (WRKBPTBL) or Setup Assistant (STRNSSA) to update this table) for IBM Network Stations must specify the value IBMNSM for the boot type parameter. And, this field is case sensitive so be sure to use all upper-case characters.

Notes When Configuring BootP Entries on the AS/400 MAC Addresses Specification

The MAC address of an IBM Network Station is identified on the box in which the unit was shipped. In addition, you can display this address by viewing the hardware settings on the unit:

• When the IBM Network Station is started, you will see the IBM logo presented followed by a memory and keyboard check. After seeing the message, Search for Host System, press the Esc key to stop the startup process.

1. You may be prompted for an administrator password (this was set by the administrator using the IBM Network Station Manager program). If the password is known, type it and press Enter. Otherwise, press Enter (and you will only be able to view the IBM Network Station setup values).
2. The IBM Network Station Setup Utility menu will be presented.

• Select the function key to View Hardware Parameters.
• Look for the entry displaying the MAC address. This will be a set of 6 hexadecimal values separated by colons (such as 05:16:02:42:00:0A).
• Press Enter to return to the IBM Network Station Setup Utility.
• Press Enter to reboot your IBM Network Station.

When entering the MAC address for an IBM Network Station into the BootP table on the AS/400 system (via the WRKBPTBL command or from the Setup Assistant menu), you must specify the MAC address separating the digits by periods rather than colons (such as 05.16.02.42.00.0A). Although this may cause some confusion, it is necessary because the BootP table uses colons as delimiters (this is not an AS/400 standard or function but rather a BootP standard format accepted by all server types using this protocol).

Note: A PTF is planned at this time which will allow you to enter the MAC address using colons and then store the MAC address using the period as the required delimiter.

Notes If Your Network Uses DHCP

If you have a server in your network that has DHCP running (such as an NT Server), you need to have your IBM Network Station default configuration changed.

To change this configuration, do the following on each of the IBM Network Stations:

• When the IBM Network Station is started, you will see the IBM logo presented followed by a memory and keyboard check. After seeing the message, Search for Host System, press the Esc key to stop the startup process.
• If prompted for an administrator password, enter it now (this is the password the Administrator set using the IBM Network Station Manager program).
• The IBM Network Station Setup Utility menu will be presented.
• Select the function key to Set Network Parameters.
• If NVRAM is highlighted, then you do not need to make any changes (because DHCP will not be used) and you can omit the rest of this step.
• If Network is highlighted, do the following:

1. Move the cursor to the line DHCP IP Addressing Order and type the letter D (and the word Disabled will appear).
2. Move the cursor to the line BOOTP IP Addressing Order and type the number 1 (to set this as the boot type).
3. Press Enter to return to the IBM Network Station Setup Utility.
4. Press Enter to reboot your IBM Network Station.
