Note: The following is specific information for the IBM Network Station Manager for AS/400 systems. Because this document will be updated regularly, it is strongly recommended that you refer to it on a regular basis.

Related Documents Available

For details on the latest PTFs for Network Station Manager Release 3, refer to document (insert), AS/400: Network Station Release 3 Additional Function.

For additional information, it is suggested that you read document II10405 - AS/400: Network Station Reference. This is a general information document that contains tips and known problems with Network Station Manager and also an index of the other AS/400 documents relating to IBM Network Station.

Note: Some of the documents listed in (insert) are specific to Network Station Manager Release 2.5.

Release 3 of Network Station Manager

To obtain this release, product 5648C05 must be ordered to receive CDs containing the license program and the required AS/400 PTFs (for V3R7, V4R1, V4R2, V4R3 and subsequent releases of OS/400). For ordering information, visit the following Web site:
http://service.boulder.ibm.com/nc/index.shtml

Installation instructions can be found on the Installation and Use manual, SC41-0664. The file can be viewed or downloaded from the following Web site:

http://service.boulder.ibm.com/nc/index.shtml

Important Note: It is necessary to remove the current version of Network Station Manager (5733A07) before installing the new release (5648C05). To remove the current version, use the DLTLICPGM command and specify License Program 5733A07.

Note: Removing the current version of the product does not remove all your user preferences and configuration information. In fact, Release 3 migrates the current user preferences as needed. All Network Station browsers must be removed (products 5648B08, 5648B10, 5648B18, and 5648B20) before installing Release 3 of the Network Station Manager. The NC Navigator browser (40-bit) is included in the new release of the Network Station Manager.

Additional OS/400 License Program Required on V4R3

The HTTP server on OS/400 Version 4 Release 3 is a separate license program called IBM HTTP Server for AS/400 (5769DG1). This license program is required so that you can access the Network Station Manager application from a browser. To verify that you have this license program installed on your system, use the DSPSFWRSC command on an OS/400 command line.

Initial PTFs Required

There are OS/400 prerequisite PTFs for Network Station Manager Release 3. You will receive the OS/400 PTFs in one of the following ways depending on how you acquire the NSM R3 license program:

This CD is labeled AS/400 Network Station PTFs with ID number of LCD4-1747-xx (where xx indicates the version of the CD).

Note: When using LCD4-1747-00 and OS/400 V4R1, the following additional PTFs are required. They can be downloaded via ECS. These will be included on a future version of this CD.

5769SS1: SF42585, SF46894, SF48333

5769TC1: SF42112, SF43412, SF47506, SF47332, SF47333

Note: The OS/400 PTFs are prerequisites. They must be applied before installing the Network Station Manager license program (5648C05).

Group PTF for NSM (Manager)

For your convenience, there is a Group PTF for the IBM Network Station Manager and OS/400 PTFs. SF99082 can be ordered via ECS. You will receive all Network Station Manager (5648C05) PTFs and all the OS/400 prerequisite PTFs for V3R7, V4R1, V4R2, and V4R3. This is the easiest way to receive all the necessary PTFs to install, run, and update Network Station Manager. Ordering individual PTFs for an initial installation should be avoided. This PTF can be ordered only through ECS and will be delivered on media (CD).

Note: Applying the latest OS/400 Cumulative PTF package does not necessarily result in a complete set of the latest Network Station PTFs. You must obtain the most recent group PTF SF99082 to obtain the latest Network Station code levels.

New Login Server Daemon on NSM Release 3

We are using a different login daemon on NSM Release 3. This daemon must be started separately or added to the OS/400 Startup CL program. This is an OS/400 issue which will be addressed on a future release of OS/400. To start the daemon separately, type the following on the OS/400 command line:

Note: This command is case-sensitive.

CALL QYTC/QYTCUSVR ('STRTCPSVR ')

Press the Enter key. To verify that the daemon started, use the NETSTAT command on your AS/400 system, and select Option 3. If the daemon started correctly, port 256 is listed under the Local port column.

This command must be run every time the AS/400 system is IPLed. To automate this process, have the system administrator add the following to the Startup CL program on the AS/400 system:

CALL QYTC/QYTCUSVR ('STRTCPSVR ')

Ensure the authority of program QYTCUSVR and QYTCNSLD in library QYTC is changed to give QPGMR authority of *USE. If this server is not started, the user receives a NSC3017 Communications Error after trying to login to the Network Station.

To grant QPGMR *USE authority to these objects, issue the following commands:

GRTOBJAUT OBJ(QYTC/QYTCNSLD) OBJTYPE(*FILE) USER(QPGMR) AUT(*USE)
GRTOBJAUT OBJ(QYTC/QYTCNSLD) OBJTYPE(*PGM) USER(QPGMR) AUT(*USE)

To view the object's authorities, issue the following commands:

WRKOBJ QYTC/QYTCUSVR

Then do an option 5 (display authority) by objects QYTCUSVR *PGM.

WRKOBJ QYTC/QYTCNSLD

Then do an option 5 (display authority) by objects QYTCNSLD *PGM and QYTCNSLD *FILE.
