CICS provides a full range of commercial Online Transaction Processing (OLTP) capabilities, including common application programming interface, intersystem communication (ISC), access to a range of database products and data integrity for all users, compatible with the other CICS Family products. Client-server and distributed Server support are included within the product.

Before installing CICS, ensure that you have completed the prerequisite steps described in the CICS for AIX Planning and Information Guide, order number GC33-1744. DCE Client (dce.client) must already be installed, but not necessarily configured on the appropriate machine before you install CICS.
After CICS has been successfully installed, DCE, Encina and CICS must be configured. For further information, see the CICS for AIX Planning and Information Guide.
Before migrating CICS, ensure that you have completed the prerequisite steps described in the CICS for AIX Planning and Information Guide, order number GC33-1744. Migration of CICS regions and servers is a separate task to be completed after successfully installing CICS and its prerequisite software.
