Summary for User Environment Customization

System Startup Files


/etc/profile System file that contains commands that the system executes when you log in.
/etc/environment System file that contains variables specifying the basic environment for all processes.
$HOME/.profile (.profile File) File in your home directory that contains commands that override the system /etc/profile when you log in.
$HOME/.env (.env File) File in your home directory that overrides the system /etc/environment and contains variables specifying the basic environment for all processes.

AIXwindows Startup Files


$HOME/.xinitrc (.xinitrc File) File in your home directory that controls the windows and applications that start up when you start AIXwindows.
$HOME/.Xdefaults (.Xdefaults File) File in your home directory that controls the visual or behavioral aspect of AIXwindows resources.
$HOME/.mwmrc (.mwmrc File) File in your home directory that defines key bindings, mouse button bindings, and menu definitions for your window manager.

chfont Changes the font used by a display at system restart.
stty Sets, resets, and reports workstation operating parameters.
