About Check Clash Options

Licensing

Clash and Distance and Band Analysis may not be available on every configuration; you must have a Space Analysis license.
This section describes the options available in the Check Clash dialog box.

It describes the following areas of the dialog box:

For information on how to bring up the Check Clash dialog box, see Viewing Analysis Data.

Definition

the Check Clash dialog box appears when you see an interference error in the Analysis Information dialog box.  The Definition area of the Check Clash dialog box provides the information used to create the particular interference object that reported the error that you selected from the Analysis Information dialog box.

Results

The Results area has the following sub-areas:

Number of Interferences

This section provides a summary of the kinds of interference detected.  The color of the light before the list indicates the overall status of all interferences:
  • Green:
    • No interferences, or
    • All interferences found have been marked Irrelevant
  • Yellow:
    • Interferences found, but not inspected, therefore relevance unknown, or
    • Interferences found, and their statuses are either Not inspected or Irrelevant
  • Red: At least one interference has been marked Relevant

Filter List

Users can choose to see the following types of interference data:
  • All types of interference (default)
  • Only clashes
  • Only contacts
  • Only clearance

Users can choose to see the interference data ordered by value (values are not accessed until an object has been selected on the interference list and inspected):

  • No filter on value (default)
  • Increasing value
  • Decreasing value

Users can choose to filter interference data according to its status.  Statuses are:

  • All statuses (default)
  • Not inspected
  • Relevant
  • Irrelevant

Results and Preview Windows

When the Check Clash dialog box opens, a blank preview window opens as well.  When you select an interference, from any of the three tabs on the Check Clash dialog box, the geometrical data appears in the preview window.

The geometric data color-codes the interference geometry.  Clearance interferences appear highlighted in green.

Contact interferences are highlighted in yellow; clash interferences are highlighted in red.  Clash and clearance interferences show either the maximum length of the penetration or the clearance distance.  This number corresponds to the numerical value assigned to the interference.

Users can also see the interference in a dedicated results window by selecting a specific interference listed in the data under any of the tabs, and clicking the Results Window button.

The results window differs from the preview windows in two ways:

  • It is the size of a normal workbench window, and potentially take up an entire screen.
  • In addition to offering the features of the preview window, it also offers Visualization options.  You can see these options when you click the More button.

Users can save the image  in the preview window by pressing the Export As button once a preview window appears.  The clash data can be saved as a .model file, a .txt file, or a .xml file.

List by Conflict Tab

The List by Conflict tab lists the interferences discovered at a particular step of the simulation.  The products involved in the interference are listed.  The type of interference (Clash, Contact, or Clearance) is also listed.

Once a user selects an interference object, it is inspected, and a value representing the extent of the interference appears in the Value column.  By default, conflicts are listed by the number assigned to them in the No. column.  However, depending on selections made in the Filter list, users can order the interferences by the number in the Value column.

The status of the conflict shifts from Not inspected to Relevant once a conflict is selected.  To change the status to Irrelevant, click Relevant under the Status column, and the conflict is listed as Irrelevant.  The status can be toggled between Relevant and Irrelevant as necessary.

Selecting the More button brings up a Detailed Results area and the Visualization options.  The Detailed Results area is updated whenever a conflict is selected.

Users can select multiple conflicts.  Selecting any conflict brings up a small preview window that shows the conflict; for a better view, click the Results Window button.

Adding a Comment

Users can add comments to the conflict list by selecting a conflict from the list, and then selecting the space immediately beneath the Comment column.

The Comment dialog box appears:

Enter whatever text desired for a comment, and then click OK

The comment appears:

Comments can also be added this way under the List by Product tab.  Comments entered under either tab appear associated with the corresponding interference in the other tab.

List by Product Tab

The List by Product tab lists the interferences discovered by each product.  The interference No. (conflict number), Type,  Value, Status, and Comment fields are identical to those observed under the List by Conflict tab.  The processes for changing the status or adding a comment are the same as those for the List by Conflict tab.  As with the List by Conflict tab, selecting a conflict opens a preview window.

Matrix Tab

The Matrix tab provides a graphical depiction of the conflicts. Each kind of conflict is color coded:
  • Green: Irrelevant
  • Yellow: Not inspected
  • Red: Relevant
If you mark an interference Irrelevant (green) on one of the List by... tabs, but it continues to show up as Relevant (red ) on the Matrix tab, click the pictogram.

The conflict type is shown as follows:

  • Clearance
  • Contact
  • Clash
Clicking a pictogram puts data in the preview window.  If the More button has been selected, the Detailed Results area is also updated.

Detailed Results

When you select the More button, the Detailed Results area appears.  If multiple conflicts are selected, detailed results can be accessed using the Previous or Next buttons.

Visualization Options

The Visualization options control what appears in the dedicated results window.
All Products enables you to see all products involved in conflict with a single part.  In the image below, all conflicts with the Cam are selected.  The Cam is in contact with the Cam Shaft (contact interferences are highlighted in yellow) and in clash with the Cam Gear (the clash area is highlighted in red).  The number (0.854 mm) shows the maximum length of the penetration.  This number corresponds to the numerical value assigned to the interference.

Products enables you to see the product (the Cam) in clash (in this case, with the Cam Gear).

Element shows the clash area only.

All of the options above are shown in the Show/Show mode.  Each conflict selected identifies the products in conflict as Product1 or Product2.  For Show/Show, both products are shown.  Other options include:
No Show for either product 1 or 2.  In the example below, the selection is Show/No Show, so Product 1 appears, the highlight of the clash appears, but Product 2 does not appear.

Lowlight for either Product 1 or 2.  In the example below, the selection is Show/Lowlight, so Product 1 appears, the highlight of the clash appears, and Product 2 appears, but not with fully realized geometry.
