PSF/AIX or Infoprint Manager:How create overlays?

ITEM: RTA000037115

QUESTION:
What is needed if the customer is interested in creating his own forms
(overlays) to be printed on a PSF/AIX- or Infoprint Manager-attached
printer?

A:

While there is no Overlay Generation Language product for AIX, you do
have several options:

 1) You can create resources on a S/370 host, using OGL/370. Objects
created on the host can be downloaded (binary), or if you have a
VM or MVS host with TCP/IP and NFS, you can remotely mount the
    minidisk or PDS.

 2) A second alternative allows you to use resources created on a PC
or PS/2 using one of our business partner products (such as ISIS,
Elixir, or the products from Group1).

 3) A third option would allow you to create overlays from the AFP
Windows driver that ships with both PSF/2 and PSF/AIX. You would
need a Windows application on a Windows or WIN-OS/2 workstation.
Then you could use the AFP Windows driver to save the output of
the Windows GUI application as an overlay.

 4) Finally, you can take the output of the PostScript or PCL transforms
of Infoprint Manager or PSF/AIX on the RS/6000, (or of PSF/2 on an
OS/2 system) and save it in overlay format (or page segment format).
So you could use any PostScript or PCL GUI application to create
    your overlay.

To invoke an overlay, you can use a form definition (formdef), or
beginning with PSF for AIX V2, you can call an overlay on the enq
print command or define a default overlay for a queue.

Formdefs can be built with the optional PPFA for AIX feature, or can
be built on a S/370 host using PPFA/370 or PMF, or again you can use
one of the business partner products mentioned above.
