Problem

Unable to boot From the mksysb tape.

Solution

A 43P will not boot from a tape unless the following conditions are met:

the operating system must be at least at AIX Version 4.1.4.0
firmware must be at least a version 1.07

System Management Services (SMS) is used to determine the level of firmware. To boot a 43P that has an ASCII terminal as the console into SMS, the system must be at firmware 1.09 or higher. Follow these steps to determine if the system is at firmware 1.09 or higher.

Boot the 43P.
Within 10 seconds, you should hear four low, fast clicks from the speakers.
If the clicks are heard, the firmware level is at 1.09 or greater. If no clicks are heard, the firmware level is at less than 1.09 and it will not work.
