Guide to Printers and Printing
Using Remote Host Access for Printing
Prerequisites
- Your system must be configured to communicate as a remote print server.
- The lpd daemon must
be installed on your system.
- To add a remote host, you must understand naming
conventions for TCP/IP.
Listing All Remote Hosts
- At the system prompt, type wsm, then select Printers.
- In the Printer Queues window, select a computer object.
- From the Selected menu, select Properties to view
a list of remote print server hosts.

You can also perform this task with the following command:
ruser -sP
OR
you can use the following SMIT fast path:
smit lshostslpd
Adding a Remote Host
- At the system prompt, type wsm, then select Printers.
- In the Web-based System Manager Printer Queues window, select New queue and printer from the Printers menu.
- To complete the steps for adding a remote host, use the menus or provide
additional information as prompted.

You can also perform this task with the following command:
ruser -a -p HostName
OR
you can use the following SMIT fastpath:
smit mkhostslpd
Deleting a Remote Host
- At the system prompt, type wsm, then select Printers.
- In the Web-based System Manager Printer Queues window, select the host you
want to delete.
- To complete the steps for deleting a remote host, use the menus or provide
additional information as prompted.
