Performance tools for the system environment fall into two general categories: those that tell you what is occurring and those that let you do something about it. A few tools do both. This appendix lists these performance-related commands and subroutines. For details of the syntax and functions of the commands, see the AIX 5L Version 5.1 Commands Reference.
Some of the performance-related commands are packaged as part of the perfagent.tools fileset that is shipped with the Base Operating System. You can determine whether the PTX tools have been installed by running the following command:
# lslpp -lI perfagent.tools
If this package is listed as COMMITTED, the PTX tools can be used.
