AIX Version 4.3 Package Guide for LPP Installation

AIX Localization Package

AIX Localization package provides support for applications to run using the cultural conventions of a specific language and territory. These conventions include date and time formatting, collation order, monetary and numeric formatting, language for messages, and character classification. Where applicable, additional software such as input methods and fonts, which is required to display and process characters of a specific language, is also included.

Fileset Names

There are seven installation images: bos.loc.com, bos.loc.fnt, bos.loc.iso, bos.loc.pc, bos.loc.pc_compat, bos.loc.adt, and bos.loc.utf.

bos.loc.com Common Locale Support

Filesets in this package provide support software for multiple locales that have similar characteristics. Filesets in this package do not provide full locale support, but rather are used as a prerequisite for installation of the desired bos.loc.iso, bos.loc.pc, or bos.loc.pc_compat locale packages. The following filesets are provided:

bos.loc.iso Base System Locale ISO Code Set

Filesets in this package provide the industry standard locale support in either the ISO8859 code set (single byte languages), or Extended UNIX Code (EUC) code set (multi-byte languages). It is recommended that you use the International Standards Organization (ISO) locales instead of the Personal Computer (PC) locales whenever possible. The following filesets are provided:

This package provides support for the IBM-932 (PC based) code set for Japan. The IBM-932 code set is the default code set for Japanese. The following fileset is provided:

Filesets in this package provide support for PC based code sets IBM-850 and IBM-856. These code sets were the default code set designations in AIX 3.1 and AIX 3.2. These packages are provided to ensure backward compatibility with previous versions of AIX. It is strongly recommended that you migrate to use of the industry standard ISO code sets as soon as possible. Support for these code sets may not be included in future releases of AIX.
