DOS Server (bos.pci) provides a means of accessing the AIX Version 4 file system from a personal computer. It also allows remote print service and character-based remote execution from a personal computer connected over a network to the AIX Version 4 system. DOS Server must be used with the appropriate level of AIX Access for DOS Users, a software product that runs on PS/2 and is not included in AIX Version 4. The DOS Server package has one fileset, bos.pci.
The DOS Server package requires approximately 0.2MB of disk space.
Requisite software must be installed before bos.pci is installed or be available on the same installation media from which bos.pci is installed. In the later case, requisite software will be installed with bos.pci without further user intervention.
Fileset you are installing | Requisite Software |

If DOS Server is already installed, DOS Server processes should be stopped before installing a new version of DOS Server or re-installing DOS Server. Enter the following to stop the DOS Server program:
/usr/pci/bin/pcistop
If the server was installed and running, a message displays indicating that the server has stopped. If DOS Server was not previously installed, this section of DOS Server instruction does not apply.
If you are installing bos.pci and plan to run the DOS Server over a network, check that bos.net.tcp.client has been installed. If not, install it.
To start DOS Server after it has been installed, either reboot the machine or enter:
sh /etc/rc.pci
When migrating from Version 3.2 to AIX Version 4, DOS Server must be completely replaced by the new DOS Server in AIX Version 4.
