IBM RS/6000 7248-100/120/132 microcode description
This microcode update is version 1.11 for all models of the RS/6000
7248. Note that this microcode cannot be
used on any other machine type, even other 43P systems such as the 7043
Models 140 and 240.
You will want to update your microcode to version 1.11 if your currently installed level of microcode is prior to release 1.07. If your installed microcode level is version 1.07 or later, update is not required to make your system Year 2000 ready.* However, version 1.11 provides functional enhancements that most customers will desire. See the next section.
* Please consult the IBM Year 2000 web page at http://www.ibm.com/IBM/year2000 for IBM's definition of "Year 2000 ready" and the latest information of the status of IBM products and the Year 2000.
Improved Reboot -- Some customers have experienced intermittent systems hangs during a soft reboot (the system is rebooted without turning off the power). Running the AIX command "shutdown -Fr" is one example of a soft reboot.
You will want to update your microcode if you have experienced the problem above, or would like to prevent this problem from occurring on your system.
If the version of your current microcode is greater than or equal to
1.11, there is no need to upgrade your microcode.
How To Determine Your Microcode Version
To check your microcode version:
Version 1.xx, built on mm/dd/yy at hh:mm:ss
(Note: 1.xx is your microcode version where xx is a 2-digit number.)
