It is very important the installation process described below is followed exactly. These drivers are not covered under the IBM Warranty. IBM Express Maintenance will not be able to assist with the installation of these drivers. For voice assistance, contact IBM HelpWare Support at 800-772-2227. There will be a $35.00 fee for all voice support of third party software programs.

Procedure:
1. Exit Windows.

2. Turn computer off. Wait 15 seconds. Turn computer on. Run the configuration utility by depressing the "F1" key several times when the box with squiggle marks appears in the upper right of the monitor (see Hardware Handbook for more details.)

3. Arrow down to the monitor frequency line of the configuration utility. Set it to the proper frequency for your monitor. (See MonitorÆs owner manual for proper setting.) After making sure this is set and the settings saved, continue.

4. Go to Windows. Go into program group Main. Go into Windows Setup icon. Select "OK" when it prompts you that the drivers are already installed. Click on Options at the top left of the Windows Setup box. Click on "Change System Settings...". Click on the down arrow to the right of the top line for æDisplay. Select the VGA driver. This driver, once selected, should be in blue on the line æDisplay.Æ Click on "OK". Select "Current". Select "Restart".

Windows will now restart using the VGA Driver. This will allow the 5430.drv to be replaced by the installation process.

5. Insert disk one into drive. Select æRunÆ From the top left of the Program Manager screen. Type æA:install Æand click on "OK". The Alpine Installation process will begin. Click on Continue. Select the default directory æC:\windows\vgautilæ, when the screen appears (Press the continue key.) The installation process will continue to about 58% and then prompt you for disk 2. When it does, switch disks. Click on "OK". The process will continue to the end. It will ask if you want to create a program group VGAUTIL (click on "Create".). WINMODE will automatically appear on screen. YOU MUST CANCEL WINMODE AT THIS POINT.

6. Go to æMainÆ and to æFile ManagerÆ. Click on the æWindows DirectoryÆ then locate the file winmode.ini and double click on that file. The file will appear in the Notepad. Locate the line that says:
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

linearaddr=64
NOTE!!! This line does not have a ";" in front!
DonÆt confuse it with the line ";linearaddr=128" a few lines above!

Save the file by going to æFileÆ then select æSaveÆ. Close Notepad. Close File Manager.

7. Run Winmode in the VGAUTIL group.

8. Select the proper monitor brand. Select the proper Monitor Model. Most IBM Monitors are specified by OTHER MODEL.

800*600 60Hz
1024*768 87Hz Int.

9. Do not use operating system switches or the font cache adjustment. Select "OK" after making your color and resolution selections. Windows will restart with the new driver. Press "OK" again when it asks if you want to update the autoexec.bat file.

10. You are done.
