Home Network Connection Center - Product Overview

Applicable to: United States

General Information
The IBM Home Network Connection Center (HNCC), Model 201 is a high-tech home control and networking solution that provides enhanced connectivity, and convenience benefits, and can help protect property value. It offers a low-cost, stand-alone alternative to existing IBM product offerings. The lower cost is achieved through reduced functionality, while maintaining the high quality of Home Director Pro components.

The HNCC adds order and functionality to household wiring termination centers. It provides order in a central junction point for household video and telephone connectivity, creating ease of video and telephone hookup and expandability throughout the house. The video hub provided in the HNCC enables the input of:

These signals are then mixed as various television channels and distributed throughout the house to up to 16 different video outlets. The HNCC video hub also strengthens the video signals to provide for a cleaner signal.

Also included in the HNCC is a Residential Telecom Module, which allows for the input of up to four separate telephone lines. It can distribute those lines to up to 24 different outputs. This feature gives the homeowner ample capacity in providing signals for both telephone and computer modem usage.

The following upgrade options are available to increase the functionality of the HNCC:

The HNCC offers high-tech home control and networking solutions at a lower cost. Features include:

Technical Specifications
Performance Specifications as known at time of announcement:
Power requirements:
Coordinate with a licensed electrician to prewire AC power to a standard duplex receptacle and UT junction box mounted inside the HNCC or Rough-in Can. If the junction box is not already installed, remove the grommet from the hole on the right side of the cabinet bottom.

Low Voltage Wiring Information

  1. Category 5 cables (two for each drop recommended) should be home-run to the wiring room from any room where data, fax, computer, or telephone may be desired. Include drops for areas such as family room, kitchen, or bedroom night stands.
  2. RG-6 quad shielded coaxial cable should be run to each room where the Category 5 cable terminates (for example, where video, HDTV, cable, modem, or IR-based distributed controls are desired). Two cables per drop are recommended. One double-gang junction box is required in each location where the homeowner may someday want to use the infrared remote interface with the IBM Home Director Channel.
  3. The HNCC does not require fiber optic cable or any low-voltage wire to the light switch locations.
