PCI HOT SWAP LATCH DIAGNOSTIC: DO NOT RUN W/ ADAPTER PRESENT

SYMPTOM:

If the PCI hot swap latch and PCI hot swap LED diagnostic tests are run with adapters present in the hot swap slots, the adapters may not be responsive when power is returned to the adapter.

PROBLEM ISOLATION AIDS:

•  The system is any of the following IBM Netfinity servers:

    a Netfinity 5600 server, Type 8664, any Model.

•  The system is configured with TNYx22A or below Diagnostics.

  Note: (build level can be seen in Setup under Product Information)

•  The system's Diagnostics Pass, but subsequent diagnostics on the adapters in the slots do not.
•  The system has the described symptom.

FIX:

•  This behavior will be corrected in the next release of IBM Netfinity 5600 Diagnostics Flash Update Diskette.
•  The target date for the release is scheduled for:

    1st quarter 2000

•  It will be available from the following URL:

WORKAROUND:

Don't run the hot swap latch test or the hot swap LED test with diagnostic version TNYx22A or below if the slot is populated.

Note: The diagnostic level can be viewed in F1 Setup under Product Information.

DETAILS:

These tests remove power to the slot and when power is returned the adapter is not initialized.

A new level of Diagnostic will be available 1st Quarter 2000 which will not allow populated slots to be selected during the PCI hot swap latch and LED tests.
