PROBLEM ISOLATION AIDS:

FIX:

  1.  Flash the SCSI Adapter to latest SCSI BIOS level (1.34 or later), using UWFLASH.EXE.
  2.  Upgrade the SCSI Device Driver for the adapter with the latest available from the 7800 Family Manager Diskette.

The referenced file(s) is/are available from the following URL:

    http://www.pc.ibm.com/searchfiles.html
      search on "uwflash.exe"
search on "7800 Family Manager Diskette"

Any corresponding Text file (e.g. uwflash.txt) is viewable on-line and may be printed.

Directions for creating an update diskette:

The downloaded file (e.g. uwflash.exe) is a self-extracting executable file that will prompt for a diskette.
Follow instructions on the display to create the diskette.

DETAILS:

Excessive rewrites, SCSI bus timeouts, and high soft error rates during backup operations have been associated with the Adaptec PCI UW SCSI adapter at firmware level 1.32, the ship level of the adapter.

Updating to the 1.34 level of SCSI BIOS will resolve this issue.

Note: This adapter was bundled as part of the Netfinity 3000 server.
