Abstract: LARGE RAID LOGICAL DRIVE FAILS UNDER UNIXWARE 7.1

TEXT:

Large RAID logical drive fails under UnixWare 7.1

SYMPTOMS:

UnixWare 7.1 will not install onto a logical drive that is greater than 128GB.

Attempting to install onto a logical drive that is greater than 128GB results in errors with "Unable to find root drive".

Anything under 128GB logical drive size is not affected.

PROBLEM ISOLATION AIDS:

WORKAROUND:

The recommended and guaranteed solution is to use the existing ISL (Initial System Load) infrastructure to modify the filesystem block size to at least 2048 bytes.
This is easily achieved during the installation by the following procedure:

  1.  Choose "Customize filesystems & slices" <F10>.
  2.  Tab to the "Size" field of the filesystem(s) from which you would like to change the filesystem blocksize.
  3.  Select "Advanced" by pressing <F6>.
  4.  Tab if necessary to the "Filesystem Block Size" field.
  5.  Use the "Choices" key <F2>, to display the available values.
  6.  Tab to the appropriate value(2048, 4096 or 8192), in this case 2048.
  7.  Accept the field value by pressing <F10>.

You may also need to reduce the size of the "ALTS TABLE" size to 2047, for the installation to continue.

Then continue with your installation by pressing <F10>
