Abstract: COMMAND TIMEOUTS LOGGED IN WINDOWS NT WITH 7200 RPM 36GB HDD

SYMPTOM:

Command Timeouts logged in Windows NT as event 9's with 7200 RPM 36GB Hard Drive.

PROBLEM ISOLATION AIDS:

The system is any of the following IBM Netfinity servers:
a Netfinity 7000-M10 server, Type 8680, any Model. a Netfinity 7000 server, Type 8651, any Model. a Netfinity 5500-M20 server, Type 8662, any Model. a Netfinity 5500-M10 server, Type 8661, any Model. a Netfinity 5500 server, Type 8660, any Model. a Netfinity 5000 server, Type 8659, any Model.
The system is configured with the following option(s):
NETFINITY EXP 36.4GB WIDE ULTRA SCSI HOT-SWAP HDD, Option P/N 02K0441, FRU P/N 08L8428.
The Firmware Prior to 0272 for the HDD FRU P/N 08L8428 is affected.
The system has the described symptom.

FIX:

Apply IBM Hard Drive Update Program version 1.02 or later.

search on "Hard Drive Update Program Diskette"

To create an update diskette; the downloaded files
(e.g. 09n7709.exe, 09n7710.exe, 09n7711.exe and 09n7712.exe)
are self-extracting executable files that will prompt for a diskette.
Follow instructions on the display to create the diskette.

DETAILS:

This behavior is corrected in Firmware 0272.
You can determine your firmware as follows:

Under ServeRAID Administrator and Monitor, click on the Drive and find the Model/Product Field:
This should read 'DRHS36D 0272.'
Under ServeRAID Manager, click on the drive and not the Firmware Revision:
This should read 0272
Under SYMplicity Storage Manager, open "Configuration", "Module Profile" and "Drives":
This should read 0272
