WINDLT.EXE


BEFORE YOU BEGIN: 

  1.  You must make sure that you have a SCSI host adapter compatible with ASPI DOS (ex. Adaptec 1540 Adapter)
  2.  You must have an ASPI Manager present and running.
  3.  DLT Tape drive hooked up.
  4.  WINDLT tools is an executable program that is intended to run under Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows NT 4.0, and Windows NT 5.0.


Create a directory on your server called "DLTtools".

Down load WINDLT.EXE from the website to a diskette* or to the directory you just created.

* If you downloaded to a diskette, take the diskette to the system that has the DLT4000 or DLT7000 tape drive attached to it.
Create the directory called "DLTtools" and then copy "WINDLT.EXE" to that directory as follows:

         C:\> mkdir dlttools <cr>
         C:\> cd dlttools <cr>
         C:\DLTTOOLS> copy a:windlt.exe <cr>


Expand WINDLT.EXE from the Desktop as follows:

         Choose Start
         Select Run
         Enter Path:       c:\dlttools\windlt.exe
         Select Open


The following files will appear in this directory:

         d4v115.41       (DLT4000 Firmware)
         d7oem1.v72      (DLT7000 Firmware)
         dlttwin         (DLT executable file)


Then expand DLTTWIN.exe from the Desktop as follows:

         Choose Start
         Select Run
         Enter Path:       c:\dlttools\dlttwin.exe
         Select Open


The following files will appear in this directory:
           dlttrn          (Release Notes (Text format))
         tpmwin          (DLTtools for WIN32 product manual (Word 97 format))
         Windltto        (Main program to view/change data from drive (DLT tools Icon))


Instructions for running DLT tools:

  1.  Double click on the DLT tools Icon.
  2.  The first screen you will see is the Disclaimer screen, press Accept to continue.
  3.  DLTtools for Win32 screen will appear.
  4.  Choose File from the drop down menu, then choose Adapter Selection.
  5.  The Adapter Selection screen will appear.
  6.  Choose the Host Adapter ID with the DLT Tape drive attached or enter the Host Adapter ID and press OK.
  7.  Choose File from the drop down menu, then choose Device Selection.
  8.  The Device Selection screen will appear, and should show you the DLT Tape Drive attached with the SCSI ID.
  9.  Choose the Device ID of the DLT Tape Drive or enter the Device ID of the DLT Tape Drive and press OK.
  10.  Choose File from the drop down menu, then choose Select a File.
  11.  Go to the DLTtools directory and select one of the following:

    * d4v115.41 (DLT4000 Firmware)
    * d7oem1.v72 (DLT7000 Firmware)

  12.  Then choose OPEN.
  13.  Make sure that the media has been removed and that the door to the DLT Tape Drive has been closed.
  14.  Choose Functions from the pull down menu, and select FUP.
  15.  The Firmware Control Screen will appear, then choose SCSI Bus Update.
  16.  You will then get a screen showing the progress of the download and a message saying not to re-cycle power to the drive until completed. This should take about 10 minutes to complete.

While Drive UPDATE is in progress, please wait...
DO NOT POWER CYCLE THE DRIVE!!!

Lights will flash (Write Protected & Tape In Use) while updating.

Drive will beep and the Operate Handle light will come on when the UPDATE is completed.

INFORMATION screen will appear, saying "Firmware updated successfully", press OK.
UPDATE IS COMPLETE.

You are now ready to resume tape drive operations.
