Abstract: NETFINITY 5600: PEER TO PEER ADAPTER CARD PERFORMANCE

SYMPTOM:

If a card which uses Peer-to-Peer PCI Bus Mastering is used in a Netfinity 5600 server, performance might be much lower than expected.

PROBLEM ISOLATION AIDS:

•  The system is a Netfinity 5600 server, Type 8664, any Model.
•  The system is configured with the following option:

   a compatible PCI adapter that uses Peer-to-Peer PCI Bus Mastering.

  Note: The Netfinity ServerProven Compatibility web page is vailable from the following URL:

•  The system has the described symptom.

FIX:

It is strongly recommended that both the master and the card it is accessing are installed in the same PCI bus.

Practically this means that they should be in slots 1 and 2 or in any 2 of slots 3-5 (Slots 1-2 are on PCI Bus A; Slots 3-5 are on PCI Bus B).

Note: If this advice is not followed, performance will be seriously affected.
