Abstract: 4-WAY PROCESSOR UPGRADE: NO VIDEO AFTER BIOS UPDATE

SYMPTOM:

No video will be displayed after updating the system BIOS and rebooting if the shuttle and processor housing are not replaced first.

PROBLEM ISOLATION AIDS:

•  The system is any of the following IBM Netfinity servers:

    a Netfinity 5500-M10 server, Type 8661, any Model.
    a Netfinity 5500 server, Type 8660, any Model.

•  The system is configured with the following option(s):
•  Netfinity Four-Way Processor Upgrade Kit, Option P/N 28L1014.
•  The system has the described symptom.

FIX:

The Netfinity Four-Way Processor Upgrade Instructions tells the installer to update the system BIOS.
The BIOS update process will prompt the user to remove the diskette and press <enter> to restart the system. DO NOT restart the system.
Go to the the section entitled "Removing the shuttle and processor housing".
If the system is restarted without changing the shuttle and processor housing, no video will be displayed after the reboot.
