Abstract: NETFINITY 7000-M10: SYSTEM MAY EXHIBIT CP66 HANG

SYMPTOM:

System may exhibit a CP66 hang on a cold boot due to an Intel CPU errata.

PROBLEM ISOLATION AIDS:

FIX:

The fix is to flash the system to BIOS level 33A / Version 5 (1.04) or later.

Note: This will require installing another CPU in the boot slot so system will start.

After flashing, any CPU will run correctly.

BIOS image files (e.g. 00n9076.exe) are available from the following URL:

http://www.pc.ibm.com/searchfiles.html
search on "Netfinity 7000 M10 BIOS" download 1.04 or later

The corresponding Text file (e.g. 00n9076.txt) is viewable on-line and may be printed.

To create a BIOS update diskette; the downloaded file (e.g. 00n9076.exe) is a self-extracting executable file that will prompt for a diskette.
Follow instructions on the display to create the diskette.

WORKAROUND:

The system will also boot if a new processor is installed in the boot processor slot.
If this is done, the system should be flashed to BIOS 33A upon starting to prevent future fails for CP66.

DETAILS:

CP66 occurs due to an errata fix in the Intel CPUs for CP37 problem.
In the previous BIOS CP37 was fixed but the patch caused an early start of errata in the CPU and this caused CP66.
