Abstract: CANNOT DELETE PARTITION USING DOS FDISK

TEXT:

Cannot delete partition created by ServerGuide using DOS FDISK.

SYMPTOMS:

ServerGuide creates a C: partition and copies the latest drivers files for installing NetWare.
Some of these files are copied in lower case which DOS does not handle, so DOS assigns the string "Am" to the empty volume label of C:, the letter "m" in lower case makes it impossible for DOS FDISK to delete the partition, because DOS FDISK only allows a label in upper case.

PROBLEM ISOLATION AIDS:

a Netfinity 7000-M10 server, Type 8680, any Model.
a Netfinity 7000 server, Type 8651, any Model.
a Netfinity 5500-M10 server, Type 8661, any Model.
a Netfinity 5500 server, Type 8660, any Model.
a Netfinity 5000 server, Type 8659, any Model.
a Netfinity 3500 server, Type 8644, any Model.
a Netfinity 3000 server, Type 8476, any Model.
a Netfinity 704 server, Type 8650, any Model.

WORKAROUND:

If you want to use DOS FDISK to delete the partition created by ServerGuide, and the C: volume label is "Am", first use the "label" DOS command to rename the label to any name in uppercase, this will allow DOS FDISK to delete the partition.
