Abstract: EXP10 / EXP15: RED DRIVE LIGHTS TURNED ON

Red Drive Lights in EXP10 and EXP15 Turned On

SYMPTOMS:

After a Failover in a Microsoft Cluster Server, the Red Drive Lights in IBM Netfinity EXP10 or IBM Netfinity EXP15 storage expansion units may turn on for a drive that is in the Online state.
There is no functional problem. If it does occur, the red lights will turn off within an hour.

PROBLEM ISOLATION AIDS:

•  The system is any of the following IBM servers:

          a Netfinity 7000-M10 server, Type 8680, any Model.
          a Netfinity 7000 server, Type 8651, any Model.
          a Netfinity 5500-M20 server, Type 8662, any Model.
          a Netfinity 5500-M10 server, Type 8661, any Model.
          a Netfinity 5500 server, Type 8660, any Model.
          a Netfinity 5000 server, Type 8659, any Model.
          a Netfinity 3500 server, Type 8644, any Model.
          a Netfinity 3000 server, Type 8476, any Model.
          a Netfinity 1000 server, Type 8477, any Model.
          a PC Server 720, Type 8642, any Model.
          a PC Server 704, Type 8650, any Model.
          a PC Server 520, Type 8641, any Model.
          a PC Server 330, Type 8640, any Model.
          a PC Server 325, Type 8639, any Model.
          a PC Server 320, Type 8640, any Model.
          a PC Server 315, Type 8638, any Model.
          a PC Server 310, Type 8639, any Model.
   

•  The system is configured with the following option(s):

   (Behavior may occur when any of the listed controllers are connected to one of the listed storage units.)

    Controllers:

•  Onboard ServeRAID
•  ServeRAID II Ultra SCSI Adapter, Option P/N 76H3584
•  Netfinity ServeRAID-3H Ultra2 SCSI Adapter, Option P/N 01K7207.

Storage Units:

•  IBM Netfinity EXP10 (M/T 3520-1RU)
•  IBM Netfinity EXP15 (M/T 3520-2RU)

•  The ServeRAID Firmware for the ServeRAID II and ServeRAID 3H are affected.
•  The Firmware levels affected are:

    3.50.22 for ServeRAID 3H adapters
    2.88.10 for ServeRAID II adapters

•  The system's Diagnostics Pass.
•  NOS affected:

    Microsoft Cluster Server Software, any version, at any patch level

FIX:

There is no functional problem. The Red lights will turn off within an hour.

DETAILS:

This behavior is very intermittent. Changes have been made in the current code release 3.50.22
and 2.88.10 to minimize this event from occurring, but there is a small chance that this may be seen.
