Abstract: SERVERAID: SOME PFA DRIVES CAUSE BOOT CONFIG MISMATCH


SYMPTOM:

The message and count down that says "Drive Configuration can take up to 6 minutes" Please wait.

The count down takes longer than 4 minutes.

Then the message:

Controller POST and Configuration Error Codes:

ISPR=EF10, BCS=7, ECS=00.

Unable to communicate with the following devices.

(Channel: SID) (X:Y)
Controller OK; Devices not responding check cable or enclosures.

Press: F4 - Retry the command
F10 - Exit without any change

Where X and Y are the Channel and ID of the PFA drive.


PROBLEM ISOLATION AIDS:


FIX:

  1.  Replace the PFA drive.

    Note: The non responding drive described in the SYMPTOM section should be checked for PFA status.

  2.  Download and Apply the latest versions of the following:

      PC ServeRAID BIOS and Firmware Diskette
      IBM ServeRAID Device Drivers
      IBM ServeRAID Administration and Monitoring Program Diskette
      IBM ServeRAID Cluster Solution for Windows NT Diskette
      IBM ServeRAID Command Line Program Diskette
      ServeRAID Manager Windows Diskette

     Referenced files are available from the following URL:

      search on "ServeRAID"
      get version 3.50, or later

    Notes: 1. Any corresponding text file is viewable on-line and may be printed.
     2. To create the referenced update diskettes; the downloaded file is a self-extracting executable file that will prompt for a diskette.  Follow instructions on the display to create the diskette.


WORKAROUND:

If you get a "Configuration Change Error" when the system is warm booted, Select F4 (retry).

Note: Do NOT select F10 (no change).

DETAILS:

The drive is alerting the ServeRAID adapter of the PFA error before the adapter is set up to handle the alert correctly.

Note: Any Drive in a PFA state should be replaced as soon as possible.
