Abstract: NETFINITY 5000: RAS ADAPTERS ONLY WORK IN SLOT-5

SYMPTOM:

IBM (RAS) adapter, (Option P/N 33L4645 + 33L4646, FRU P/N 33L4612 + 33L4613), or the IBM 4P BRI ST/U adapter, (Option P/N 33L4643 + 33L4644, FRU P/N 33L4610 + 33L4611), installed in an IBM Netfinity 5000 server (8659) only works in Slot-5. (Non shared ISA/PCI slot.)

PROBLEM ISOLATION AIDS:

•  The system is one of the following IBM Netfinity servers that supports the IBM RAS adapters.

           a Netfinity 3000 server, Type 8476, any Model.
           a Netfinity 5000 server, Type 8659, any Model.
           a Netfinity 5500 server, Type 8660, any Model.
           a Netfinity 5500-M10 server, Type 8661, any Model.
           a Netfinity 7000 server, Type 8651, any Model.
           a Netfinity 7000-M10 server, Type 8680, any Model.

FIX:

•  This problem will be fixed in BIOS Level-7 V1.04 or higher.
•  It will be available from the following URL:

WORKAROUND:

Verify that the card is installed in the correct slot.

If the card is not installed in slot 5, remove the adapter software and the adapter.
Then re-install the adapter in slot-5, and re-install the software.

Update the BIOS on the Netfinity 5000 (8659) to Level-7 v1.04 or higher.

DETAILS:

The IBM RAS adapter or the IBM 4P BRI ST/U adapter should be installed only in slot-5 in a Netfinity 5000 (8659) if the BIOS is below Level-7 v1.04.
