Abstract: FAILOVER ISSUES: SSA CLUSTER ADAPTER AND HOST SW 1.06, 1.07

SYMPTOM:

Microsoft Cluster Server (MSCS) Failover will hang and will not complete.

PROBLEM ISOLATION AIDS:

•  The system is any of the following IBM servers:

          a Netfinity 7000-M10 server, Type 8680, any Model.
          a Netfinity 7000 server, Type 8651, any Model.
          a Netfinity 5500-M20 server, Type 8662, any Model.
          a Netfinity 5500-M10 server, Type 8661, any Model.
          a Netfinity 5500 server, Type 8660, any Model.
          a Netfinity 5000 server, Type 8659, any Model.
          a PC Server 704, Type 8650, any Model.
          a PC Server 330, Type 8640, any Model.
          a PC Server 325, Type 8639, any Model.
   

•  The system is any of the following OEM servers:

          a Compaq ProLiant 1500 server, any Model.
          a Compaq ProLiant 2500 server, any Model.
          a Compaq ProLiant 5000 server, any Model.
          a Compaq ProLiant 6000 server, any Model.
          a HP NetServer LH Pro server, any .Model
          a HP NetServer LX Pro or LXr Pro server, any Model.
   

•  The system is configured with any number of Processors.
•  The system is configured with the following option(s):

          SSA RAID Cluster Adapter, OPT P/N 96H9835, FRU 02L7644
          (7133 Feature 4012 for non-IBM hosts)
   

•  The package versions 1.06 and 1.07 Device Driver for the SSA RAID Cluster Adapter is affected.
•  The 0100 and 0200 Firmware for the SSA RAID Cluster Adapter is affected.
•  The system is configured with Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 Enterprise Edition, with either Service Pack 3 or 4 applied.

FIX:

Fix will be implemented in a future revision of the driver and adapter firmware.

WORKAROUND:

Use Windows NT SP 3 and the 1.05 driver package, which ships with the SSA RAID Cluster Adapter.

Note: There is no workaround with NT SP4 until the new driver and firmware is released.

DETAILS:

An issue with SSA driver package versions 1.06 and 1.07 causes problems when used with Microsoft Cluster Server.
In this environment, MSCS failover will hang and will not complete.

Operation in a non-clustered (one-way) environment is unaffected.
Because SP4 is required for the SerialRAID Adapter (Option 09L2084/7133 Feature Code 4013) and Advanced SerialRAID/X Adapter (Option 09L2123 / 7133 Feature Code 4040), use of the SSA RAID Cluster Adapter in the same system as either the SerialRAID Adapter or Advanced SerialRAID/X Adapter is unsupported when used in conjunction with Microsoft Cluster Server.
