No driver for Adaptec AHA-2940U2W Wide ULTRA2 SCSI Adapter.

SYMPTOMS:

ServerGuide 4.1 currently does not provide a driver for "Adaptec AHA-2940U2W Wide ULTRA2 SCSI Adapter" resulting in Windows NT 4.0, Novell NetWare 4.11, SCO OpenServer 5.X and UnixWare 7.X cannot install to drives attached to this adapter.

PROBLEM ISOLATION AIDS:

The system is any of the following IBM servers:

a Netfinity 7000-M10 server, Type 8680, any Model. a Netfinity 7000 server, Type 8651, any Model. a Netfinity 5500-M10 server, Type 8661, any Model. a Netfinity 5500 server, Type 8660, any Model. a Netfinity 5000 server, Type 8659, any Model. a Netfinity 3500 server, Type 8644, any Model. a Netfinity 3000 server, Type 8476, any Model.

The system is configured with the following Adaptec adapter:
Adaptec AHA-2940U2W Wide ULTRA2 SCSI Adapter
The system is configured with one of the following: Novell NetWare 4.11 Windows NT 4.0 SCO OpenServer 5.X SCO UnixWare 7.X
The 7800 Family Manager Device Driver for the Adaptec Adapter is affected.

WORKAROUND:

If your server has an "Adaptec AHA-2940U2W Wide ULTRA2 SCSI Adapter" installed, you will need to download the 7800 Family Manager Set version 3.02 (or later) driver set from the following Adaptec WEB page:

Upgrade Instructions:

DETAILS:

The steps for each NOS are listed below:

NT 4.0
1. You can only use the Software Guide (Customized Installation with Set-up diskettes) method.
2. SG will ask you to insert the NT CD.
3. NT Set-up will show you a screen with two options while detecting the system devices, choose the following:
  To specify additional SCSI adapters, CD-ROM drives, or special disk controllers for use with Windows NT, including those for which you have a device support disk from a mass storage device manufacturer, press S.
4. Then Set-up asked to insert the disk labeled "Manufacturer supplied hardware support disk" into drive A:.
5. Insert the diskette with the drivers for NT.
6. After that, the installation continued as usual and worked without problems.
Novell NetWare 4.11
1. SG won't list in the supported Adapters screen the Adaptec W2 PCI SCSI adapter, but if you continue will copy the rest of the new drivers required for your system, and then will prompt you to insert your Novell CD.
2. Begin with the installation following the Novell set-up program prompts.
3. When a screen appears that asks you to select a disk driver, press Insert.
4. Insert the Adaptec 7800 Family Manager Set diskette for NetWare into your disk drive.
5. Press F3 and specify the path to the aic78u2.ham driver for NetWare.
6. Select AIC78U2.HAM and press Enter.
7. Press Alt-ESC. From the console prompt type the following:
  "load a:\netware\iac78u2.ham"
8. Press Enter.
  - A list of slot numbers separated by commas is displayed.
  - Write down all slot numbers listed.
  - Do not press Enter.
9. Press ESC twice.
10. At the prompt, press Alt-ESC.
11. Choose Select/Modify Driver Parameters then press Enter.
12. Type the slot number and press Enter.
13. Press F10 or ESC.
14. Choose Save Parameters and continue, and press Enter.
15. To install additional adapters, follow the procedures from step 10.
16. When complete, select Continue the installation to complete the installation.
OS/2 SMP
1. You may use Software Guide to install this card without requiring the new driver.
SCO OpenServer 5.0.X.
1. SG won't list in the supported Adapters screen the Adaptec W2 PCI SCSI adapter, but if you continue will provide you with the rest of new diskette drivers required for your system, then will prompt you to insert your SCO CD .
2. An example of a valid boot string to use at the SCO boot prompt is:
  restart link=blad325 Sdsk=blad(0,0,0) Srom=wd(0,0,0,0)
3. After kernel loads but before it runs, "link" prompts you to insert "7800 Family Manager" diskette.
  Note: You will be notified that an existing aladinit driver already exists and asked which routine you wish to replace.
  Choose routine 31 to replace and continue with the installation.
SCO UnixWare 7.0.X
1. Begin the installation.
2. When a message appears asking if you want to install any HBA diskettes, insert the "7800 Family Manager" which contains the UnixWare Device Driver, then, select the INSTALL HBA DISKETTE.
3. Continue with the installation.
