  2.  Pressing <S> at this point to Specify Additional Device and using the 7800 Family Manager diskette results in setup  saying "...the disk controller you specified is not installed in your computer".

      OR

  3.  After booting the system from the Windows NT 4.0 CD, pressing <F6> to install the 7800 Family Manager diskette NT  driver (when the message "setup is inspecting your system" appears), results in setup still only seeing the IDE CD-ROM  (ATAPI 1.2)/PCIIDE controller.

Pressing <S> at this point to Specify Additional Device and using the 7800 Family Manager diskette results in setup saying "...the disk controller you specified is not installed in your computer".

PROBLEM ISOLATION AIDS:

FIX:

A new 7800 Family Manager Diskette has been released which will allow Windows NT to be installed by booting the CD.

After booting the NT CD press <F6> when the message "setup is inspecting your system" appears on the screen.
Use diskette P/N 00N8689 - 7800 Family Manager Diskette (Win NT V4.0, Win NT V3.51, NetWare V3_X, NetWare, OS/2 2/1X/Warp/SMP) V3.01 I37 or higher to install the NT4 driver for the on-board SCSI controller.

The 7800 Family Manager Diskette v3.01 I37 (or higher) can be downloaded from the following URL:

Search on "7800 Family Manager"

DETAILS:

The Netfinity 5000 uses the new Adaptec 7895 chipset on the systemboard.
The Adaptec 78xx driver that ships on the Windows NT 4.0 CD-ROM is incompatible with this new chipset.
