PC SERVER325/330: PLANNING FOR A ROLLOUT - BATTERY ISSUES

SYMPTOMS:

•  161 error
•  162 error
•  System will not retain date/time if wall power is removed.

PROBLEM ISOLATION AIDS:

•  The system is any of the following IBM servers:

    a PC Server 330, Type 8640, Models: PT0, PB0, PM0, 11Y or 21Y.
    a PC Server 325, Type 8639, Models: PT0, PTW, RB0, PB0, 1RY or 2RY.

•  The system has been in storage (5 months or more) and is scheduled to be put into production.

FIX:

IBM recommends that the CMOS battery voltage be tested.

If the CMOS battery voltage is less than 2.91 volts - replace the CMOS battery (FRU P/N 33F8354).
