Abstract: S3 VIDEO DRIVER MAY NOT LOAD WITH SOME COMM ADAPT

SYMPTOM:

If you install the IBM S3 video driver and restart the system Windows NT will revert back to standard VGA mode, if a IBM SDLC, 3270 and 5250 PCI adapter is installed.

PROBLEM ISOLATION AIDS:

The system is any of the following IBM servers:

a Netfinity 7000-M10 server, Type 8680, any Model. a Netfinity 7000 server, Type 8651, any Model. a Netfinity 5500-M20 server, Type 8662, any Model. a Netfinity 5500-M10 server, Type 8661, any Model. a Netfinity 5500 server, Type 8660, any Model. a Netfinity 5000 server, Type 8659, any Model.

The system is configured with one of the following:

Windows NT server 4.0 Windows NT Terminal server 4.0 (Note: These are affected with or without any service pack applied.)

The S3 Video Device Driver for the On-board Video Adapter is affected.

FIX:

This behavior is fixed in version 3.24.16 of the video driver.
The target date for the release is scheduled for: April 1999.

Use the standard VGA driver that ships with Windows NT or Windows Terminal Server.
