Abstract: TRAP 0003 OCCURS with UNATTENDED BOOT using OS/2 WARP

SYMPTOM:

Trap 0003 occurs with unattended boot using OS/2 Warp.

PROBLEM ISOLATION AIDS:

FIX:

Apply OS/2 Fixpak 38.

DETAILS:

When the setting "Allow for Unattended Boot" option is set to "On" in the system set-up, and OS/2 Warp (can be Warp v4, Warp v3, Warp Server v4, Warp Server Advanced v4, or Warp Server SMP v4) boots, the system will display a Trap 0003 message at CS:EIP 0598:000008f0 or a similar address.

During start-up, if Alt+F2 is selected, the driver that loads immediately before the trap message is displayed is IBMKBD.SYS (this may occur too quickly to see). This problem is fixed by OS/2 Fixpak 38. The resolution is a new IBMKBD.SYS driver that correctly handles the unattended boot option. This problem can be reproduced on a variety of IBM Servers including the Netfinity 5500, Netfinity 5500 M10, Netfinity 7000, Netfinity 7000 M10, IBM PC Server 325, and IBM PC Server 330.
