Abstract: ECA013: 8650 BACKPLANE/DISPLAY PANEL FIRMWARE Replacement

PURPOSE:

This ECA provides for the replacement of three (3) Firmware chips: one for each of the two backplanes, and one for the "front panel control board" of the PC Server 704 type 8650 model 4BW/7AX/4M0 to include:

model 5M0 with machine s/n less than 23M8787
model 6MM with machine s/n less than 23T6744

This ECA will expire on December 28, 2003

Servers eligible for this ECA may exhibit any of the following FALSE CPU failures at POST:

PHYSICAL CHECK:

Look on the Server cover directly below the system service label (located on the access door side of the power supply chassis) check for the ECA013 label. If the ECA013 label is NOT in place, and the System experiences the Symptoms listed in this document, then apply this ECA. If the ECA013 label IS in place, DO NOT apply this ECA. Consider the errors genuine and contact the IBM Helpcenter for the given geography, request support using normal service procedures.

PREREQUISITES: NONE COMPANION: NONE CONCURRENT: NONE DETAIL: Order Firmware kit, FRU P/N 01K6603 which includes: Two 32-pin Flash modules (to replace the existing modules on both backplanes). One 28-pin Flash module (to replace the existing module on the "front panel control board"). One ECA013 Installed label (to place on the inside of the server cover after you install the new modules). Installation booklet. A chip removal tool FRU P/N 10G3902 will be required. Refer to the IBM PC Server Hardware Maintenance Manual Supplement, Part Number S78H-6414-02 for assembly details. Review the Safety Information on page III of the installation booklet contained in the Firmware kit. Review the information about handling static-sensitive devices on page v of the installation booklet contained in the Firmware Kit. Complete Installation instructions 1 through 16 in the Installation booklet contained in the Firmware kit. NOTES: This ECA will expire on December 28, 2003 Scrap the Removed Firmware chips locally. EMEA: IBM PSS CE's should record all time and parts to Service Code 33, (8650) ECA013, Other Office 990.
