Abstract: MULTIPLE DDD DRIVES caused by INCORRECT CHANNEL MAPPING

SYMPTOM:

After one drive becomes DDD, one or more other drives will appear to be in a DDD drive state.

PROBLEM ISOLATION AIDS:

All of the following must be true for this TIP to apply:

      ServeRAID Adapter             FRU  P/N 06H9334
                                    Opt. P/N 70G8489
      ServeRAID Adapter             FRU  P/N 76H6875
                                    Opt. P/N 70G8489
ServeRAID II Adapter          FRU  P/N 76H3587
                                    Opt. P/N 76H3584
      ServeRAID II Onboard Controller  (Integrated)

FIX:

NOTE: All further references to "Bank" or "Banks" represents those internal to the System and / or those located in a System-connected External Enclosure.

Ensure the Channel-bank mapping correctly reflects the SCSI cabling of the ServeRAID / ServerRAID II Adapter / Controller to the Hot-Swap backplane(s) as follows:

  1.  Examine and NOTE the actual SCSI cabling of the ServeRAID / ServeRAID II Adapter / Controller  to the internal Hot-Swap backplane(s) internal to the System and / or in the System-connected External Enclosure.

     EXAMPLE:

Ch1 on the ServeRAID goes to Bank E
Ch2 on the ServeRAID goes to Bank D
Ch3 on the ServeRAID goes to Bank C

  2.  Ensure the ServeRAID / ServeRAID II Adapter / Controller is configured to map the SCSI Channels  (the same as the physical cabling) using the following procedure:
