Abstract: NETFINITY 3500, 3500-M10: INTRANETWARE ISSUE W/ PCI SLOT-1

SYMPTOM:

The driver for any Adapter configured in PCI Slot #1 (System Slot#2) will not load during the installation of Novell IntraNetWare 4.11.

PROBLEM ISOLATION AIDS:

FIX:

  1.  Leave PCI Slot #1 (System Slot #2) empty while installing Novell IntraNetWare 4.11
  2.  After the installation is complete and the System has rebooted, down and exit the  Operating System, power down the Server, install the adapter in PCI Slot #1 (System Slot #2),  then power up the System, and configure the Operating System for the Adapter.

Note: The adapter in PCI Slot #1 (System Slot #2) should not be a LAN adapter.

DETAIL:

PCI slot #1 (System Slot #2) SHARES the interrupt assignment with the integrated Onboard 7895 SCSI Controller.
Novell IntraNetWare has limitations with the sharing of interrupts including the sharing of an interrupt by a LAN and a SCSI device.
