Abstract: NETFINITY 5500: VIDEO ADAPTERS NOT SUPPORTED BY SEC. PCI BUS

SYMPTOM:

One or more of the following conditions occur:

•  Unrecognizable characters displayed on monitor screen during / after boot.
•  Blank monitor screen during / after boot.
•  System hangs at boot.

PROBLEM ISOLATION AIDS:

of the following must be true for this TIP to apply:

•  The System is a Netfinity 5500 server Type 8660 model 11U, 1RU, 41U, 4RU, 11X, 1RX, 41X, 4RX
•  A Supported Video Adapter is located in one of the Secondary PCI Bus slots (Slots 1-4).
•  The Monitor is connected to the Video Adapter.
•  The Monitor and Video Adapter are considered to be good.

FIX:

Move the Video Adapter to a Primary PCI Slot. If a Primary PCI Slot is not available, and a Video Adapter is required (in addition to the Onboard Video Controller), then install a ISA Video Adapter.

DETAILS:

The secondary PCI bus will not support a Video Adapter.
