SCSI Drives (8650)

SCSI Drives

Some drives have a special design called small computer system interface , or SCSI. This design allows you to attach multiple drives to a single SCSI-2 connector.

NOTE: Any information about 'SCSI Drives' also applies to other SCSI devices, such as scanners and printers.

The non-disk-arra models come with two integrated SCSI-2 controllers on the system board. Each SCSI-2 controller supports a SCSI-2 connector on the system board. The server comes with a 16-bit cable attached to each of the SCSI-2 connectors, each cable connects to the 16-bit, wide connector on one of the SCSI backplanes. The non-disk-arra models come with a 3-drop, SCSI narrow cable that has two connectors available for attaching additional devices.

The SCSI CD-ROM drive that comes with the server connects to the 8-bit SCSI narrow connector on the upper SCSI backplane.

The disk-array models come with a RAID adapter, which provides two additional SCSI-2 connectors.

The number of preinstalled SCSI hard disk drives might vary according to model. The disk-array models come with two integrated SCSI-2 controllers on the system board. Each SCSI-2 controller supports a SCSI-2 connector on the system board. The server comes with a 16-bit cable attached to each of the SCSI-2 connectors on the RAID controller, each cable connects to the 16-bit, wide connector on one of the SCSI backplanes. Also, disk-array models come with a 4-drop, SCSI narrow cable, which is already attached to the CD-ROM drive and the integrated SCSI-2 controller on the system board. This cable has three connectors available for attaching additional devices.
