3278/79 Emulation Adapter (ValuePoint)

This Adapter Card is the only one supported on the ValuePoint.

Software Requirements


Personal Communication/3270 V-3.1 is required for VP-Si

3278/79 (Version A) Emulation Switches

The Version A adapter normally has only one switch visible. The others are covered completely. This switch is labeled number 6 and indicates the number of the expansion slot where the card is to reside.

This card uses IRQ2. Take care of the jumpers on the system board to have this IRQs disabled from the videos's IRQ. 8 KB on-card storage (fixed addr. at CE00h) is mapped into the systems memory.
ROM Shadowing MUST be disabled for this area. (e.g. CC000-CFFFF within the system setup).

NOTE: The IBM Personal Computer 3278/79 Emulation Adapter DIAGNOSTICs do not provide support for multiple-card operations.

Interrupts Switch 3 of the Version A adapter controls the generation of interrupts that are sent to the personal computer.

Switch 3 Description
ON Generation of a level 2 interrupt is permitted.
Off Interrupts are not generated.


Power-On with Memory Disabled Switch 5 allows the Version A adapter to power-On with memory either enabled or disabled depending upon the setting.

Switch 5 Description
ON Memory enabled at POR.
Off Memory disabled at POR.


Switch 6 of the Version A adapter controls the operation of slot 8 in any system unit with a machine type number 5160 or 5531.

Switch 6 Description
ON Operation permitted in slot 8 of a system unit
with a machine type number of 5160 or 5531.
Off Operation permitted in any slot of any other
machine type or in slots 1-7 of machine types
5160 or 5531.


3278/79 (Version B) Emulation Switches

The switch assembly on adapter Version B contains only four switches.

This card uses IRQ2. Take care of the jumpers on the system board to have this IRQs disabled from the videos's IRQ. 8 KB on-card storage (fixed addr. at CE00h) is mapped into the systems memory.
ROM Shadowing MUST be disabled for this area. (e.g. CC000-CFFFF within the system setup).

Normally Switches 3 & 4 should be in the OFF position.
