IDE ATA-3 Product Description
The Deskstar IDE (ATA-3) Hard Disk Drive is a 3.5-inch slimline (1-inch high) drive. It can only be
installed in computers that use the AT attachment/integrated drive electronics (ATA/IDE) architecture.
The Deskstar EIDE hard disk drive has the following features:
- IBM magnetoresistive head technology to achieve high recording density.
- Fast seek times and a high rotation rate for high performance.
- Dynamically-adaptive segmented data buffer (only for the 4.2 GB drive)
- Segmented data buffer with read-ahead and write caching.
- Dynamic error checking and correction.
The HDD can be configured in any of the following ways:
Single drive
- To add a hard disk drive to a computer
- To replace a hard disk drive
Multiple drive
- To operate with installed ATA/IDE hard disk drives
- To operate with installed (SCSI) hard disk drives
The operating system needed is:
- DOS (DOS 5.0 or higher)
- OS/2 or OS/2 Warp
- Windows 3.x (under DOS 5.0 or higher)
- Windows 95

- Deskstar EIDE hard disk drive
- Disk Manager
- Mounting screws
- IDE interface cable (incl. with options 76H0962, 75H9920 and 76H7248)
(40-pin interface cable)
- Mounting brackets with screws (incl. with options 76H0962, 75H9920 and 76H7248)
3.5-inch - 10.2cm x 15.2cm x 2.6cm (4 in. x 6 in. x 1 in.)
5.25-inch - 15.2cm x 20.3cm x 4.1 cm (6 in. x 8 in. x 1.63 in.)
The Disk Manager software diskette contains programs to:
- Partition and format the drive
- Work with the computer BIOS, if necessary, to use the full capacity of large EIDE HDDs
- Create disk partitions up to 2.14 GB in size
- Enable 32-bit disk access for Windows 3.1 and 3.11
(Windows 95 autom. includes 32-bit disk access)
