See > Required Device Drivers
and installation instructions for the Netfinity Advanced Systems Management processor.
This section provides instructions for starting and using the Netfinity® Manager Advanced
System Management service.
This service enables you to access, configure, and manage the IBM® Netfinity Advanced System
Management Processor.
These instructions include detail on how to install the configuration utilities and device
drivers that the Netfinity Advanced System Management processor requires.
This section is intended for anyone who will install and use the Netfinity Advanced System
Management processor with Netfinity Manager or Client Services for Netfinity Manager.
This section also provides instructions on using the Netfinity Advanced System Management processor without
Netfinity Manager.
-Important-
The features available with the Advanced System Management service vary depending on the Advanced
System Management hardware that they are managing.
For detailed information on using the Advanced System Management service with Advanced System Management
hardware other than the Netfinity Advanced System Management processor, see the documentation that is
included with the option or the Server Library that is included with the server.
With the Advanced System Management service, you can configure system-management events (such as POST,
loader, and operating-system timeouts or critical temperature, voltage, and tamper alerts).
If any of these events occurs, the Advanced System Management service can be configured to
automatically forward a Netfinity alert in one of four ways:
With this service, you can use the system's modem to dial out and directly access and
control a remote system's Advanced System Management PCI Adapter or Advanced System Management Processor.
If the remote system has a Netfinity Advanced System Management PCI Adapter installed and the adapter
is connected to a Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) network, you can use the
Dynamic Connection Manager service (installed when you installed Netfinity Manager and the Advanced System
Management service) to open a TCP/IP link with the Netfinity Advanced System Management PCI
Adapter from the Netfinity Manager system.
Finally, if the Netfinity Advanced System Management PCI Adapter or Advanced System Management
Processor is connected to an Advanced System Management (ASM) Interconnect network, or if the remote
Netfinity Advanced System Management PCI Adapter adapter or Advanced System Management Processor to
which you have connected using the system's modem or TCP/IP connection is connected to an ASM
Interconnect network, you can use this connection to access and manage the Advanced System Management
PCI Adapter or Advanced System Management Processor of any other system that is connected to the ASM
Interconnect network.
