Updating the Advanced System Management Processor Code

Complete this procedure to update the advanced system management processor code.

1.  Insert the IBM Netfinity 5500 Advanced System  Management Processor Update Diskette  into the diskette drive.
2.   Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart the server. The system  begins the power-on self-test (POST).

    Information similar to the following will appear on the screen.

     | 1. Update Advanced System Management Processor     |
     | 2. Configure OS Watchdog Timer                     |
     | 3. Exit                                            |

     | Enter       F1=Help     3=Exit                     |
     |                                                    |
     |                                                    |
     |                                                    |

3.  Select 1. Update Advanced System Management Processor  and press Enter.

    A warning message appears on the screen with  information similar to the following.

     |                                                    |
     | This procedure will update the Advanced            |
     | System Management Processor code. The              |
     | system must not lose power during this             |
     | operation.                                         |
     |                                                    |
     | Press Enter to continue with the update            |
     | or press Esc to cancel it.                         |
     |                                                    |
     |                                                    |
     | Enter     Esc=Cancel                               |
     |                                                    |
     |                                                    |

4.  Press Enter when you are ready to continue. Several  screens are displayed as the system upgrades the  microcode.

    After a successful upgrade, a message similar to the  following appears.

     | The Advanced System Management Processor           |
     | update was successful.                             |
     |                                                    |
     | Press Enter to return to the main menu.            |
     |                                                    |

     |                                                    |

5.  Press Enter when this screen appears. The main menu appears.
6.  Press Enter or F3 to exit from the utility program.

    A message similar to the following appears.

     | Remove the diskette from the default               |
     | drive and reboot the system.                       |
     |                                                    |
     |                                                    |

7.  Remove the diskette and go to Updating the System Diagnostic Programs.

   Note:  If an error occurs, a message similar to the  following appears on a screen with a red background.

     | Retry updating the Advanced System Management      |

    If this message appears, remove the diskette and return to  'Updating the Advanced System Management Processor Code'  to retry this procedure.
    If this error message appears again, remove the diskette,  turn off the system, and contact your service representative for assistance.
