Abstract: 2640 ECA007 - LCD PIXEL POLICY CHANGE.
PURPOSE:
Replace TFT LCD panels on systems with or with-out warranty that
have from 8 through 20 defective pixels.

PHYSICAL CHECK:
TFT LCD panels on systems in the FEATURE SECTION that contain
from 8 to 20 defective pixels.
Defective Pixel definition:
Not firing (black), incorrect color firing, or incorrect color
always on.
This ECA can not be applied to warranty or non-warranty systems
if more then 20 pixels are defective.
Systems with this
condition should have the LCD replaced using normal terms and
conditions for warranty and non-warranty systems.

DETAIL:
The IBM ThinkPad pixel policy pertaining to LCD replacement has
changed.
The old policy required 21 or more defective pixels
to replace the TFT LCD panel during warranty. This policy has
been revised to read 8 or more defective pixels.
Systems listed in the FEATURE SECTION that follow the PHYSICAL
CHECK criteria should use this ECA to replace TFT LCD Panel FRUs
that are exhibiting a pixel failure within the new Pixel Policy
criteria.

Defective pixels normally occur during the manufacturing process
and are not a product of LCD use.
Therefore most conditions are present from the systems first power on.
NOTES: This ECA will expire on 8/31/99.

service code 33, ECA 007, and OTHER OFFICE 990.
