Installing the PCMCIA Network Device Driver as an Option

The installation instructions for the PCMCIA adapter card device driver differ depending on the Windows NT version. Follow the instructions depending on your Windows NT version.

Installing for Windows NT 3.51 

Windows NT comes with integrated PCMCIA support for some PC Cards. The PCMCIA device driver included in Windows NT does not support the IBM PCMCIA 16/4 Token Ring Credit Card Adapter, IBM PCMCIA 16/4 Token Ring Credit Card Adapter II, and IBM PCMCIA Token Ring Auto 16/4 Credit Card Adapter.

When use these tokenring cards, install the IBM PCMCIA Token Ring Device Driver. Use the Windows NT PCMCIA Token Ring Device Driver files. To get the Windows NT PCMCIA Token Ring Device Driver files, see 'How to Get Updated Software'.

To install the device driver:

NOTE: Before you install this driver, first install Windows NT Version 3.51 Service Pack #2 or a later release.
  1.  Click on Main in the Program Manager menu. Then click on Control Panel, Network, and Add Adapter.
  2.  Click on the dropdown list icon, scroll to the bottom of the list, and click on <Other> Requires disk from manufacturer.
  3.  When you are prompted, insert the driver diskette in the diskette drive. Follow the instructions on the screen.
  4.  When you are finished adding the adapter, click on OK and follow the instructions on the screen.


Installing for Windows NT 4.0 

Windows NT Version 4.0 supports integrated network adapter cards for PCMCIA network adapter, ISA adapter, and PCI network adapter cards. To install the adapter cards network device driver, do the following:
  1.  Click on My Computer.
  2.  Click on Control Panel, then click on Network
  3.  Click on the Adapters tab in the Network menu, then click on Add
  4.  Select your network adapter from the option list.

      The following table shows the adapter driver names for the IBM
      PCMCIA network adapter cards given in the option list:

      IBM Ethernet-II PCMCIA Card      IBM Ethernet PCMCIA and Compatible Adapter
     

  5.  Click on OK to instal the file.
      You will be prompted for the drive and path name for file location.
  6.  Follow the instructions on the screen.


During the installation of the network device driver, you are prompted to enter the option parameters for the adapter card. The following are the most common recommended parameters:
