Install Microsoft Windows NT

Before installing Windows NT, read the following:

Review the Windows NT installation guide.
Windows NT cannot be installed on a computer with an OS/2 Warp dual boot configuration. If you are using OS/2 Warp and you plan to install Windows NT, remove OS/2 Warp from the computer along with all the preinstalled OS/2 applications.
If you plan to continue using OS/2 Warp with Windows NT, you need to use the OS/2 Warp Boot Manager. For more information, refer to the Windows NT installation guide.
When installing Windows NT 3.51:
Install Windows NT with Custom Setup and specify the video display as Standard VGA (640x480, 16 colors). Otherwise, the screen might become all white when you start Windows NT Version 3.51 the first time after the installation.
If you need to use a PC Card hard disk drive (such as the IBM 105MB or 260MB hard disk drive, Integral Peripherals Viper 105MB or 260MB disk, Maxtor Mobile Max131, or other PCMCIA ATA storage device), insert it in the PC Card slot before you start thw Windows NT 3.51 installation.
Windows NT 3.51 recognizes the PCMCIA hard disk only at installation to set up the necessary device driver.

You can install Windows NT using the internal CD-ROM drive. However, if the computer does not have a CD-ROM drive, use one of the following two alternative ways to install Windows NT.

Using an external CD-ROM drive in a DOS environment. If you have an external CD-ROM drive that connects under a DOS environment, install Windows NT in DOS.
1. Insert the Windows NT compact disk in the external CD-ROM drive
2. Go to the CD-ROM directory, then go to the \I386 directory.
  For example, if the CD-ROM drive is drive D, go to D:\I386.
3. At the command prompt, type WINNT, then press Enter
  For example, D:\I386>winnt
Using a network server. You can install Windows NT on multiple computers by first copying the Windows NT master source files to a shared drive on a network server. After connecting the computer to a network, such as with the DOS LAN requester, you can install the files from the network server to the computer at the DOS command prompt.
