Visualizing the 2D Elements  

This task shows you how to filter 2D elements from a 2D Layout view plane.

When activated on a view, only the 2D planar elements that are in the same plane as this view in 3D, will be displayed in the background of the view.
Surface elements, faces of solid in the same plane will not be be visible.
Open the modevisualization.CATPart document. Double-click Sheet.1 in the specification tree to open the layout in the 2D window.

You should create 2D elements in the views using different planes. The 2D planar elements include the 2DLayout views, FTA annotations, sketches and wireframe planar elements (GSD splines for example, and also GSD planes).

  1. Two section views have been created in the layout sheet.

  2. Right-click the Auxiliary view B in the specification tree or in the sheet and select Background > Activate 2D Visualization Mode.

    You can also use this alternative method:
    1. Right-click the front view and select Properties.
    2. In the Properties dialog box, click the Visualization tab. 
    3. In the Background area, select the Activate 2D Visualization Mode check box.

    4. Click OK to validate and exit the dialog box.

    We can see that hexagon and spline are not visible, since Sketch.1 and Sketch.2 do not lie on the same plane. The face of the pad is also not visible.

       

    In product structure context, the plane of the view will be considered in context of the product. That means that 2D planar elements outside the Part of the Layout will be displayed only if their plane in the product context is the same as the plane of the view selected in the product context.
  • While drawing generation from 2D Layout views with the Activate 2D Visualization Mode option ON:

    • Annotation lying on the 2D mode plane will be generated.

    • Construction geometries lying on the 2D mode plane will be generated.

    • 3D background which is visible through a view, with 2D mode ON, will be generated.

  • Activation of the 2D mode is a view property and is saved in the CATPart.

  • For pre-R18 2D Layouts, by default the 2D mode option is OFF.

  • On selecting the option, Activate 2D Visualization Mode option using Tools > Options > Mechanical Design > 2D Layout for 3D Design, View Creation tab, View Background field, every new view created, will have the visualization mode activated while view creation.   

  • The activation of 2D visualization mode for newly created views, depends on, Activate 2D Visualization Mode option in Tools > Options > Mechanical Design > 2D Layout for 3D Design, View Creation tab, View Background field.
