Synchronize Position and States, Modify Position and Redefine Reference Object

This procedure describes how to edit the positions and states of objects after their positions and states have already been saved in a Position object.

Starting with release R18 you can find the three new commands in the State Management Tools toolbar:

Synchronize Position

The command Synchronize Position is a new command in release R18 in the State Management Tools toolbar. After starting the command you can select a state, a absolute or a relative position in the tree.

In this example you will see how you synchronize a position. It is the same procedure as for a state.

Initial situation: The picture below shows the tree without the selection of a position.

  1. Click the Synchronize Position icon to display the synchronized position or state in the 3D viewer. The Synchronize Positions icon will turn from blue to orange to indicate that the Create Positions mode is currently active

  2. In the next step select the position or the state in the tree.

In this example POS1 is selected and object moved to the active position in the 3D viewer which is defined for the State or Position:

Modify Position

The command Modify Position is a new command in release R18 in the State Management Tools toolbar. Only the absolute or the relative position can be modified.

In this example you will see how you can modify the position e. g. for the Position POS 1 as we show in the example for the command Synchronize Position.

This picture shows the synchronized position POS1 from the example of the command Synchronize Position.

  1. In the first step, you must change the object position to a new position before you can use this command. In the example the position POS1 is changed and selected in the tree.

  1. In the next step, click the Modify Position icon to modify the position. The Modify Position icon will turn from blue to orange to indicate that the Modify Position mode is currently active.

  2. The changed position will be directly displayed in the 3D viewer. Click the OK button, the position is changed – in the example position POS1 has been modified.

You can check your work:

  1. First click the Restore Design Position icon.

  2. Second click the Synchronize Position icon.

The changed position will be displayed:

Redefine Reference Object

The command Redefine Reference Object is a new command in the State Management Tools toolbar. The command can be applied only to a relative Position.
  1. In order to change a relative position click on the icon  Redefine Reference Object in the State Management Tools toolbar. The Redefine Reference Object icon will turn from blue to orange to indicate that the Redefine Reference Object mode is currently active

  2. After the first step select the relative position in the tree. The dialog Redefine reference object is opened. In the field Name of the Reference Object the current referenced object is indicated. In this example it is the reference object Subassembly Axis Wheel Back1.

The picture below shoes the current relative position of POS4_relative.

  1. In order to choose a new reference object you have to select the object in the tree – in this example the reference object is Board.1. While the dialog is opened, you can assign another reference object as often as desired. The selected reference object is highlighted in the 3D viewer.

  1. After you assigned the new reference object click on the OK button.

With the help of the command Synchronize Position, you can show the changed relative position – like the picture below shows.
