This procedure describes how to save and restore a
simulation to its initial state. A simulation's initial state is a
consistent state of the world, which is used as the starting point of
the simulation, and from which the simulation will always begin.
The products, resources, that are part of a simulation do not have an
initial state defined until they are used as part of a simulation
activity command. Once they are used as part of a simulation
activity command, their initial state becomes what it was before the
simulation command acted upon them. The simulation activity
commands are those defined in the Simulation and the
Simulation Activity Creation toolbars. In this sense, V5
automatically saves an initial state for all processes. Using
Save Initial State ,
you can save the initial state of the products before a
simulation activity command is introduced into the process; using
Restore Initial State ,
you can restore the initial state to the products |
 |
This procedure has two parts:
|
|
The selection mode affects the behavior of Restore
Initial State
and Save Initial State
. See the
selection mode procedure for more information. |
 |
|
 |
Before starting this procedure, verify that your
simulation is in its initial state. Keep in mind that you
can alter the initial state of the simulation beyond repair. It is
very important to understand the significance of the initial state as
well as the consequences that result from altering it. |
|
-
Click
Save Initial State .
The Save Initial Condition dialog box appears. |
 |
-
Do you want to save all of the products and resources
as part of the initial state?
- If YES, you want all products and resources saved, go to
Step 4.
- If NO, you want only some of the products and resources
saved, go to Step 3.
|
-
(Optional) In the
dialog box, choose Selected Products/Resources only, then
on the geometry or PPR tree, select the required products, resources,
When you choose Selected Products/Resources only, a
counter appears. |
 |
As you select products, the selected products are highlighted
and the counter increases. If a selected product is selected
again, it is removed from the selection: selection acts as a
toggle. |
-
Do you want to save all of the
attributes as part of the initial state?
- If YES, you want all initial state attributes saved, go to
Step 6.
- If NO, you only want some of the initial state attributes
saved, go to Step 5.
|
-
(Optional) Choose
Selected Attributes; then select an attribute.
To select multiple attributes, use the LMB+Ctrl. |
 |
-
Click OK.
A status window appears telling you what percentage of the
save is complete and how many seconds are remaining. |
Once the status window disappears, the initial state is saved. |
|
|
|
|
-
Click
Restore Initial State .
The Restore Initial Condition dialog box appears. |
 |
-
Do you want to restore all of the to their initial state?
- If YES, you want all products and resources restored, go to
Step 4.
- If NO, you only want some of the products and resources
restored, go to Step 3.
|
-
(Optional) In
the dialog box, choose Selected Products/Resources only,
then on the geometry or PPR tree, select the required products.
When you choose Selected Products/Resources
only, a counter appears. |
 |
As you select products, the selected products are highlighted
and the counter increases. If a selected product is selected
again, it is removed from the selection: selection acts as a
toggle. |
-
Do you want to restore all
attributes to their initial state?
- If YES, you want all attributes restored, go to
Step 6.
- If NO, you only want some of the attributes restored, go to
Step 5.
|
-
(Optional)
Choose Selected Attributes; then select an attribute.
To select multiple attributes, use the
LMB+Ctrl. |
 |
-
Click OK.
A status window appears telling you what
percentage of the restoration is complete and how many seconds are
remaining. |
Once the status window disappears, the initial state is
restored. |
|
 |
The products that are not used in the simulation do not
have their initial state restored when using Process Simulation
(for performance reasons.) Still, it is possible to restore their
initial state using the Restore Initial State
(with the All Products and Resources option selected). |
