To view your faxes, go to http://faxserver.almaden.ibm.com Your "userid" is x4117. Your password is your standard, universal one. ======================================================================= Your fax number is 927-4117. ======================================================================= After un-IGOR-izing myself, I found that fxusr (the fax program that's recommended in the you've-got-a-fax note one gets) didn't work anymore. (not sure it's related to un-IGOR-izing myself or not). Anyway, IGOR simply calls faxuser, which is in /afs/alm/common/fax/bin, which is in my PATH. So, just call faxuser. ======================================================================= FaxApp help contacts - Kin Wong 7-2541 - Mark Jackson 7-2505 ======================================================================= One day (5-16-97 if you must know), I received a fax named /afs/alm/common/fax/x4117/fax32079.dta. The fxusr program didn't see this file and reported that I had no faxes in my fax mailbox. The solution was to run any2any on the file to convert it to a tif file, with the command any2any -i ips -o tif fax32079.dta fax32079.tif The problem with this is the version of any2any I was picking up was a very old one from contrib. Kin Wong put the latest version out in /afs/alm/common/fax, so the correct command would have been cd /afs/alm/common/fax/x4117 /afs/alm/common/fax/any2any -i ips -o tif fax32079.dta fax32079.tif ======================================================================= To send a fax, under a shell, type FaxApp. The file selection is kinda tricky. There's a big "Directories" window the middle of the screen, with a smaller, itsy-bitsy "Files" window off the right. Select a file (I was sending a postscript file generated by FrameMaker), Open the "File" button and select "Preview" to see the fax you're about to send. If you like what you see, Open the "File" button and select "Send". Fill in the number you want to send to in the "Fax Number" window (you don't need the leading 1- for outside numbers). Under the "Send" window, if you want a cover page, fill in the "Name" box and activate the "Cover Page..." option. Fill in the boxes you want and hit the "OK" button. Your fax number is 927-4117. To send, hit the "OK" button under the "Send Fax Dialog" screen. The fax isn't really sent until you hit the "OK" button on the next screen. The reason for this is you can send more stuff behind what you've just sent if you want. Normally you don't want to, so just hit the "OK" button on the popup window.
